The above examination will commence on 29th July, 2010.
2. Applications are invited by me from medical officers possessing the following requirements to sit the above examination.
(a) have passed the Selection Examination in Medicine ; and
(b) have completed the 2 ½ years clinical training programme as
prescribed in the regulation.
Note :-
Those who are eligible in terms of the above requirements should
submit with the application the “Log Book” which provides evidence
of their successful completion of the said training. The signature of
the relevant Consultant trainers should be obtained before submission
of the Log Book.
3. According to the existing regulation eligible candidates should submit a Case Book consisting of 5 cases, which should consist of 3 cases in General Medicine and 2 cases in other specialities. The Case Book will be submitted for evaluation at the end of two years of pre MD Training. Candidates should make the payment of Rs. 1500/- to the PGIM and produce the receipt of the same along with the Case Book. If there is any correction recommended by the evaluator it should be attended by the candidate and should re-submit with the hard bound Case Book to the PGIM on or before 26th May, 2010. Only those whose Case Books have been accepted will be allowed to sit the examination.
4. Candidates are also informed that only those who qualify in the written component are allowed to proceed for the Clinical and Oral Components. All candidates will be informed in writing of their performance in the written component whether they are permitted or not, to proceed for the rest of the examination. The clinical and oral components of the examination will commence on 30th August, 2010.
5. Please note that candidates are allowed only 6 attempts at the Part II which must be made within a period of 8 years from the date of passing the Part I or equivalent examination to the said qualification. This requirement does not apply to those candidates who have sat the MD (Medicine) Part I examination before 1998.
6. Candidates who are eligible to sit the MD (Medicine) are required to be present for the first scheduled examination after completion of the training programme. If a candidate does not apply or does not sit the first scheduled examination, or subsequent scheduled examination for reasons not acceptable to the Board of Study the examination will be counted as an attempt.
7. Candidates are also informed that the Board Study will allocate all Senior Registrar appointments according to merit and the requirements of the Ministry of Health.
8. The prescribed fees for the examination, are as follows :-
(a) Registration fee - Rs. 2,300.00 (non refundable)
(b) Examination fee - Rs. 25,000.00
(c) Case Book assessment fee - Rs. 1,500.00
Candidates are required to pay Rs. 2300.00, the registration fee for the examination and Rs. 12,500.00 the entry fee for the written component in the first instance. Those who qualify to proceed for the rest of the examination, ie. Clinical and Oral components will have to pay the balance examination fee of Rs. 12,500.00.
9. Eligible candidates should obtain the prescribed application forms from the Examinations Branch, Postgraduate Institute of Medicine on payment of Rs. 500/- or can be downloaded from our website www.cmb.ac.lk/pgim. Requests for application and other details by post should accompany a SASE 9” x 4” in size and a money order for Rs. 500/- drawn in favour of Postgraduate Institute of Medicine and payable at the Cinnamon Gardens, Post Office, Colombo 7. The envelope should be marked “Application for MD (Medicine) Examination” at the top left hand corner.
10. Candidates who fail the examination but obtain 60% for the theory paper will be given exemption from sitting the theory paper for a maximum number of two (02) more attempts or for a maximum period of two (02) years whichever is the earlier, from the date of commencement of the examination where the candidate passes the theory component. This exemption is allowed from February, 2003. These candidates are required to submit a fresh application together with a letter indicating whether they would sit again for the theory component or wish to appear only for the clinical and oral components of the examination before the closing date of applications. Candidates who opt for the clinical and orals need to pay the registration fee of Rs. 2300/- and Rs. 12,500.00/- as the examination fees.
11. Completed applications with every cage duly filled should reach the Senior Assistant Registrar/Examinations PGIM, 160, Norris Canal Road, Colombo 07 on or before, 05th July, 2010. Incomplete applications and late applications will not be considered under any circumstances.
12. Past question papers are available for sale in the PGIM Library.
13. Please bring the contents of this Circular Letter to the notice of all medical officers concerned in your department/division/faculty.
