SELECTION EXAMINATION FOR  ADMISSION TO THE TRAINING PROGRAMME IN  PATHOLOGY –  SEPTEMBER 2010

 

The Selection Examination for admission to the postgraduate training programme in   Pathology will commence on 07 September 2010.

 

2.   Applications are invited by me from medical officers possessing the following requirements to sit the above examination.

 

(a)     a medical degree registered with the Sri Lanka Medical  Council ;  and

 

(b) satisfactory completion of  one year of   post internship in medical practice in a        University/ Public/ Private Sector Institution in Sri Lanka acceptable to the PGIM as at the date of  closure of applications, ie. 20 July 2010.

 

Note    :-    In respect of (b) above, those who have availed maternity or sick leave during this one year period could be considered eligible provided they have completed 80% of the post intern year.

 

In addition to qualifications at (a) and (b) above, candidates who wish to enter the Clinical Haematology or Chemical Pathology training programme, will have to fulfill the following  requirements.  

 

                   Clinical Haematology

 

1.      Candidate should complete one year of post-intern appointment in a Clinical discipline (ward setting, ICU, Anaesthesia)

 

2.      At least 6 months of Adult Medicine or Paediatric appointment under supervision is mandatory during the intern/post intern period.

 

Chemical Pathology

 

Six months of training in Adult Medicine or Paediatrics during the internship.

                                    OR

 

During the post-intern period, working in a General Medical or Paediatric ward under the supervision of a Consultant Physician or a Pediatrician for a six months period.

 

3.  Candidates will be selected to follow the postgraduate training programme in Histopathology, Clinical Haematology or Chemical Pathology, depending on the number of training slots available and the merit order of those who have been successful at the selection examination.

 

4.   The examination shall consists of a MCQ Paper and a Short Essay/Essay Paper.  The MCQ Paper which consists of 45 questions should be answered in 2 hours and 15 minutes.   Those who qualify in the MCQ Paper will be allowed to proceed to the Short Essay/Essay Paper.

                                                                                                                       

 

 

5.   Please refer the new regulations laid down by Ministry of Health regarding release of Medical Officers of Department of Health in PGIM website – www.cmb.ac.lk/pgim

 

6.   Please note that candidates will be allowed to attempt the selection examination without limitation of number of attempts.

 

7.   The prescribed fees for the examination, shall be, as follows:

 

            (a) Registration fee        -           Rs.2,300.00 (non refundable)

            (b) Examination fees     -           Rs.8,500.00

                                               

(Private candidates will be charged 50% more on each fee of the PGIM)

 

8.  Special arrangement has been made to accommodate private sector candidates provided they have completed the requirement of post intern one year at a private sector medical institution or by serving with a General Practitioner or private hospitals recognized by the Board of Study of the PGIM and approved on case by case basis. (please ask Examinations Department for detailed circular).

 

 9.  The selection of the speciality will be done at the outset. Those who are selected for the postgraduate training in Pathology (Histopathology/ Clinical Haematology/ Chemical Pathology) will be enrolled to follow the one year training programme of Certificate in Basic Laboratory Sciences.

 

10. Eligible candidates should obtain the prescribed application forms from the Examinations Branch, Postgraduate Institute of Medicine on payment of Rs.500/- or can be downloaded from our website www.cmb.ac.lk/pgim.  Requests for application and other details by post should accompany a SASE 9” x 4” in size and a money order for Rs.500/- drawn in favour of Postgraduate Institute of Medicine and payable at the Cinnamon Post Office.  The envelope should be marked “Application for the Selection Examination for Training Programme in Pathology” at the top left hand corner.

 

11. Completed applications with every cage duly filled should be forwarded through the Head of Department (if applicable) confirming that the applicant if selected would be released for postgraduate training at the PGIM.   The applications should reach the Senior Assistant Registrar/ Examinations, PGIM, No. 160, Norris Canal Road, Colombo 07 on or before 20 July 2010.   Incomplete applications and late applications will not be considered under any circumstances.

 

12. Please bring the contents of the Circular Letter to the notice of all medical officers concerned in your department/division/faculty.
