The PGIM conducted its third trainer training programme at the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital on 9th and 10th August 2018. Professor Ariaranee Gnanathasan (Professor in Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo), Dr Shavindra Dias (Head, Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya), Dr S. Sivaganesh (Senior Lecturer, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo), and Dr Pandula Siribaddana (Senior Lecturer in Medical Education, PGIM) facilitated the training, which was attended by around 25 trainers maninly from the Batticaloa teaching hospital.
This was the first time the trainer training programme of the PGIM was held outside Colombo and it was well received by the trainers in Batticaloa. The workshop was held for two consecutive days and was followed-up by two weeks of online learning. Dr M Thirukumar, Senior Lecturer, Department of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Health-Care Sciences of the Eastern University co-ordinated the event in Batticaloa on-behalf of the PGIM. From 2019, all new trainers of the PGIM are required to complete the trainer training programme in order to be recognized as trainers for the PGIM.
